2008 Thorpe Reserve Shiraz

This wine comes from our best shiraz grapes from the lowest yielding part of our 17 acre vineyard. Intense fruit weight plus the trademark balanced acidity our vines are known for equals a tremendously focused and generous McLaren Vale Shiraz. Kept on its skins for 3 weeks for colour and complexity then aged in fine new and one year old French hogsheads for 18 months, the Thorpe Reserve Shiraz is a luminous aubergine in hue with a nose of blackberries, cherries, clay, and white pepper. The palate reveals a core of pure dark fruits, savoury notes of thyme and rosemary, and a smooth and sensuous mouthfeel. The wine finishes long and firm right now and the fine grained tannins make it a winner with all sorts of grilled vegetables, fish and meats. We recommend aging this wine for 3-5 years for optimum enjoyment. 425 cases produced.

Tasting Notes
Colour Luminous aubergine, a violet, bloodlike intensity, and quite opaque.
Nose Lots of blackberry and Bing cherries with a great whiff of white pepper and earthy notes of clay/iodine.
Palate A core of serious dark fruit framed with toasty fine French oak which accentuates the herbal notes of thyme and rosemary. Great focus here and fine tannins elevate this wine to Reserve status. The finish is persistant and generous, but the wine will benefit from six months to a year more in the bottle. One of our best efforts to date.
Alc 14.45%, TA 6.9g/L, pH 3.30, screwcap
